Frequently asked questions

Tour

How long does a tour last?

about 2 hours
The exact duration depends on the group size and the number of questions.

In which language is the tour offered?

The tour can be booked in German or English. Due to the low interest in English tours, the tour can currently only be booked in English for groups of 4 or more people.

What is the minimum number of participants for the tour to take place?

As soon as at least 4 people have booked the respective tour (either individually or together), it will take place. If there are fewer than 4 participants, the tour can be cancelled one day before, with the booking participants being informed in advance.

What is the maximum possible number of participants for the tour?

The maximum possible number of participants is around 50 people, although this is rather an exception. Normally, tours offered to private individuals consist of groups of around 4 to 10 people.

For large groups of 30 people or more, either can

  • an audio guide can be used, or
  • be divided into 2 tour dates.

The audio guide costs 70 cents extra per active user. The participants can also listen to the tour via their cell phone with their own headphones. Our experience has been that around half of all participants use the audio extension and the other half do not.

The group can also be divided into 2 tours and therefore into 2 different dates or starting times. There are no additional costs due to division!

How does the audio guide work? How much does the audio guide cost?

Cost: 1€ per active user (not per participant!)
In large groups of more than 30 people, the front half of the participants, who are standing close to the tour guide, can easily understand what he is saying, even without an audio guide. However, the back half can use the audio guide as support so that everyone can follow the tour equally well. Therefore, according to experience, about half of all participants use the audio extension and the other half do not.

Pay: Billing takes place after the tour and can be paid directly in cash or on account.

booking: is offered automatically for groups of 30 or more people. If there are fewer participants, it can be booked additionally upon request. Simply note when booking (possible online using the note field).

Function/Use: The audio guide works via smartphone and no app needs to be downloaded. At the beginning of the tour, every participant who wants to use the audio guide can scan a QR code and thereby activate the audio guide. This is then simply received via the browser. Using the audio guide uses an average of 40 MB of mobile data and approximately 10-20% battery for the 2 hours the tour lasts.

What is the recommended age for a tour? Is there a minimum age?

We generally recommend the tour for ages 13/14 and up.

In principle, younger people could also take part, although we leave the final decision to the legal guardians or teachers. However, we generally advise against it, as hard topics such as violence and drug use are discussed. Martin's lecture can be adapted, especially for school classes, but only to a limited extent.

Does the tour take place in all weathers?

Yes, our tours take place in any weather.

If it rains, the tour guide has umbrellas for the participants and in summer they can move to shaded areas to avoid the sun.

Are dogs allowed on the tour?

Yes, dogs are welcome on the tour.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the tour is barrier-free everywhere and the paths between the stations are wheelchair accessible. For example, the subway passage at the Secession can be left via the elevator or the last station, which is normally reached via the Ilse-Pilsk-Stiege, can be reached via a side street.

Where is the starting point of the tour?

The meeting point is directly at the Karlsplatz subway station, at the Resselpark exit, right across from the police station. From the passage you can see the large exit towards Resselpark. Immediately as you leave this exit, the meeting point is on the left (and the police station on the right).

What can I do if I can't find the meeting point or I might be late?

If there are any problems, just contact Nadine call up – 0670/7011176

What happens if I'm late?

Be sure to let us know – Martin will wait a maximum of 10 minutes for individual participants and a maximum of 20 minutes for a whole group.

However, the starting point is also the first stop on the tour and this makes the tour easy to catch up with. The group will stay here for at least 20 minutes before moving on to the next station.

Otherwise, just ask Nadine for help with the connection +43 670 / 701 11 76 call up.

Are there breaks during the tour? Is there a possibility to go to the toilet?

There are actually no breaks during the tour, although there is seating at almost every stop.
You will pass 2 public toilets during the tour (one of which is chargeable).

I don't have time on the specified fixed dates. Can I also book outside of the fixed tours?

Yes, it is certainly possible to create a tour date outside of the existing tour dates. Simply call up or by Mail and state the desired date. If possible, it will be officially registered and other people can book it.

For groups of 4 or more people, you can easily choose any date.

Is it possible to book the tour privately?

Yes, of course! If desired, the tour can be booked privately free of charge for groups of 10 or more people.

When booking on fixed dates, this is only possible if no other participants have booked yet. For a private tour for fewer than 10 people, an additional flat rate applies:

1 to 3 participants: €90
4 to 6 participants: €60
6 to 9 participants: €40
from 10 participants: free

lecture

How long does the lecture last?

approx. 2 units

The exact duration depends heavily on how many questions are asked.

In which language is the lecture offered?

Basically in German, English must be specifically requested.

What is the minimum number of school classes for the lecture to take place?

from 1 school class

What is the maximum possible number of school classes for which the lecture can take place (simultaneously)?

The maximum depends on the possibilities of the respective school. If a microphone and the equipment are available for x school classes, the lecture can also take place for x school classes at the same time; here we completely depend on the wishes of the respective schools.

What is the recommended age for the lecture? Is there a minimum age?

We generally recommend the lecture for ages 13/14 and up.

Martin's presentation can be subtly adapted, but only to a limited extent. We therefore generally advise against booking the lecture for younger kids, as hard topics such as violence and drug use are discussed.

If desired, a break can be taken between the 2 lessons. This can be divided into a lecture and then questions and discussion.
